As a homeowner or business owner in Columbus — or anywhere, for that matter — hearing the word “repair” associated with any major appliance will likely make you cringe. After all, we commonly associate the word “repair” with the word “expensive.”

With water heaters, it is no different. At Only Water Heaters, we won’t lie to you — repairs are often costly and sometimes even make replacement a more attractive option. That being said, it is important to know a few of the more common issues that need to be repaired so that you might know what you’re getting yourself into before calling one of our experienced technicians.

Continue reading as we discuss the three most common water heater repairs that we perform here in the Columbus area.

Fixing Dip Tubes

If you have a tankless water heater, rest easy knowing that you will never need this repair. If you own a water heater with a warming tank, however, it is more than likely that you will have to have this repair made at some time in the future.

Dip tubes are the tubes that carry cold water from your water supply down to the bottom of the tank where it is to be warmed. As the water is warmed at the bottom of the tank, it rises to the top of the tank where it will be drawn from. If your dip tube breaks, cold water will be deposited at the bottom of the tank — rendering your water heater useless.

Luckily, this repair is simple and generally pretty inexpensive. If you notice that your water heater is not properly warming water, contact a water heater repair specialist right away so that they can fix your dip tubes.

Repairing Burners

While electric water heaters are the most common water heaters that we install, there are still a large number of gas water heaters that are sold or that are still functioning in the Columbus area. Gas water heaters, as you might assume, have a burning function that is used to heat the water.

Over time, rust, dirt, and other particulate matter can build up on the burner and lead to issues with the water heater’s ignition and burning function — in turn, significantly reducing the unit’s heating power.

Any time you have a sudden loss in heating power, it is important that you contact us right away!

Replacing Heating Elements

Just as burners on gas water heaters need to be replaced from time to time, heating elements can also fail in electric water heaters. If one of the two heating elements that are commonly built into water heaters burns out, it can cause the production of hot water from the tank to significantly decrease.
